MATH
This last week was hectic due to the CogAT testing. So we are going to take our Multiplication Readiness test on Tuesday and will begin Metric Measurement after we take our test. READING We will begin a new topic about point of view. The students will learn that books can be written in 1st person and 3rd person. WRITING Students will finish publishing their opinion writing piece. We will begin our next writing piece which will be a research piece. SCIENCE Students have started a new Science investigation! They'll be focused on pebbles, sand, and silt and have the opportunity to be learning from Mrs. Cusack over the next few weeks for science! This week well will review our multiplication readiness skills: making equal groups, using repeated addition, and creating arrays to prepare us for our math test on Thursday. READING We will continue practicing with Author's Purpose. Not only will they be able to decide if the author's purpose is to persuade, inform, and entertain but we will find out an author's purpose can be more than one purpose. WRITING We're working on our opinion and persuasive unit! Students have finished drafting their writing pieces. They will begin revising and editing their papers this next week. SCIENCE Students have started a new Science investigation! They'll be focused on pebbles, sand, and silt and have the opportunity to be learning from Mrs. Cusack over the next few weeks for science! NEXT WEEK: Phonics Focus: vowel team --> oe Sight Words: long Grammar Focus: Synonyms Comprehension Strategy: Author's Purpose IMPORTANT NOTES: > Our first week with Mrs. Stoller has been a big transition. We are practicing to use the same expectations that Mrs. Knapp has for the classroom as well as for Mrs. Stoller. CogAT tests will be given next week on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Notes were sent home on Thursday about the test. Please remember to have your child bring in their Valentines box or bag the morning of the party and their Valentine's. READING We are reviewing text features next week! This is a great skill to practice at home when reading nonfiction texts, magazines, newspapers, articles, posters, and more. See if you can help your child spot photographs, captions, headings, subheadings, bolded words, diagrams, and more. WRITING We're working on our opinion and persuasive unit! Students have chosen their topics and will begin drafting next week. SCIENCE Students have started a new Science investigation! They'll be focused on pebbles, sand, and silt and have the opportunity to be learning from Mrs. Cusack over the next few weeks for science! NEXT + THE FOLLOWING WEEK: Phonics Focus: vowel team --> ee, ea, & ey words Sight Words: small, start Grammar Focus: Review! READING We are going to be working on Nonfiction text features over the next 2 weeks! This is a great skill to practice at home when reading nonfiction texts, magazines, newspapers, articles, posters, and more. See if you can help your child spot photographs, captions, headings, subheadings, bolded words, diagrams, and more. WRITING We're working on our opinion and persuasive unit! Students chose something to write a review about, so this week we are choosing topics and planning/organizing our writing.
