We are beginning to wrap up multiplication this week! I'm so proud of 2K for their hard work during this chapter. We are planning to take the test over multiplication on Wednesday. Reading We finished up theme 7 this week! Our next theme is theme 8 and centered around magnets. We will be learning how to monitor our understanding while we read. Science We are still studying simple machines and have been learning about force, motion, and gravity and how these things come into play with simple machines. Writing 2K is writing biographies! We will continue this until break. NEXT WEEK: Vocabulary: attract, magnet, object Sight Words: let's, we, hand, lost, pick, start, knew Spelling Pattern: -ood & -ook Important Things:
In case your haven't heard.. Christopher arrived this week! Who is Christopher you may ask? Well, he's our new elf friend in the classroom. Each day he's in a new fun spot and the students will use him as writing prompt to write in a journal about his whereabouts. Some days Chrisopher will be bringing us goodies, sometimes kindness challenges, and more. He is very adored already and it's only been one day! Next Week:
Vocabulary Words: reduce, labor, effort Sight Words: past, water, week, soon, ground, food, laugh Spelling Pattern: -alk, -all Math We've been diving deeper into multiplication while touching on division! We're looking into what equations are, and how to balance them. We will starting to look at word problems more next week. Reading We have been practicing synthesizing what we read this week. Synthesizing is putting all the pieces of the text together into one big idea, kind of like a puzzle. It's also how our thinking grows deeper and changes as we read. Practice this skill at home as you read! Writing We have been studying biographies in second grade. We practiced writing a biography of a friend in class, learning that it is a true account of someone ELSE'S life. We also learned about characteristics of a biography as well. Science We are focused in on simple machines up until Winter Break! We are digging into levers, pulleys, wheel and axles, screws, wedges, and inclined planes! We are also going to be learning and figuring out what exactly motion, friction, force, work, and gravity are next week. IMPORTANT INFO - This week I sent home a red paper regarding a Holiday Book Exchange. Please bring/buy a new or gently used book to wrap and send to school with your child by December 16. On the last day of school before break, we will have a book exchange and each child will go home with a new book! - Just a reminder to make sure you child is getting in their XtraMath & Reading at home! There are many fun holiday books out there to engage your child during this season! :) *Kudos to 2K for filling their marble jar! We had a fun day this week of PJs, flashlights, stuffed animals, hot coco, and cookies!* |
