Math
In Math, we are studying creating Bar Models to help us solve word problems!. Bar Models help students to visually work out word problems. PLEASE check the "resources" tab of our blog at home because I've provided more information on bar models, along with a word problem game called THINKING BLOCKS. (<-- click it and it will take you there!) I introduced this to students this week and many of them are hooked! By far, using Thinking Blocks is the best way to practice using bar models at home.
Reading
We have started theme 5, which is studying about where people live. We've been practicing how to make inferences in reading and how to determine importance in reading. We've also been focusing deeply on proper nouns and completed a proper noun scavenger hunt!
*Thanks Mrs. Sell for coming in and reading to us today!
Science
We are finishing up the Solar System unit and have had a blast this week! We started off the week by going to our outdoor classroom, The Fox Den, and creating the Solar System ourselves by impersonating it by using giant blow up planets, sun, and moon. We focused on the difference between ORBITING and ROTATING. It was so fun being able to learn outside and get some fresh air while making our learning hands-on! We are wrapping up the Solar System unit next week.
