Here is a RECAP of this past week...(In green: what we are looking forward to NEXT WEEK.)
Math
We are finishing up with Chapter 2 in Math with a test today (Friday). The kids had two workshop days this week where they practice addition with regrouping in all sorts of ways! They really progressed in their knowledge of the skill and concept and I am so proud of their growth! They have worked so hard. Next week we will begin Chapter 3--Subtraction!
Writing
We are finishing up learning about Personal Narratives. Next week we will begin learning about Nonfiction Writing! When you read at home, try to point out nonfiction text features such as: captions, headings, bolded words, table of contents, index, glossary, etc.
Reading
We have been learning how to ask questions while we read and create images in our heads as we read. 2K has some really imaginative readers! We have also been looking into what the elements of a story are (characters, plot, problem, solution, author, illustrator). Try to point out these elements as you read with your child. Next week we are still continuing to build on these skills!
Science
Our larvae has entered the PUPA stage as each one has turned into a chrysalis!!! We are SO excited. I love watching the kids be "entomologists" as they track data on their caterpillar. It cracks me up how protective they are of them. They are little parents in the making with their class pets! :) Next week are jumping full force into SPACE and the MOON! (This is one of Mrs. Knapp's favorite units to teach!)
Vocabulary: measure, calendar, interval
Spelling Words: boat, crow, float, glow, throat, plow, rowboat
(We are focusing on the oat, ow spelling pattern.)
High Frequency/Sight Words: night, five, told, inside, sat
As many of you know, we have started Class Dojo in our classroom. If you haven't yet, please make an account so you can see your child's progress and receive messages from me. I will use it for reminders as well as behavior tracking. In the photo below, you will see our Dojo Support Wall. Students who are close to a point amount (15, 25, 50, etc.) will have their names up. Other kids can write encouraging notes to keep them working hard! They have loved it so far.
