In Spelling, we took our first "Spelling Sentences" quiz. The first one was just for practice so the students could get a feel for what Spelling is going to look like. Each week, they will have 9 spelling words, 5 sight words, and 3 vocabulary words. They will see the vocabulary words on the chapter test. The sight words and spelling words are practiced every day throughout the week and then on Fridays, we take a "Spelling Sentences" quiz. I give 3 sentences that include a variety of our spelling and sight words in them. The students copy them down. Then, I give them a bonus word and they can create a fourth sentence on their own that includes that word (and makes sense). The fourth sentence is optional, but all students are encouraged to do it. Every Friday on our "Friday Focus", I will include a list of the upcoming week's spelling words, sight words, and vocabulary words.
NEXT WEEK:
Vocabulary: tradition, generation, relatives
Sight Words: those, farm, fast, river, move
Spelling Words: cast, quit, rent, stock, trust, our, this, body, both
**In Spelling, we will have an emphasis on practicing short vowels**
To the right, you can see how they are displayed in our classroom! You can also see our current end-of-the-day chapter book read aloud, Frindle. :)
In Math, we've been practicing our number sense and place value to kick off the year. We've been working a lot with base ten blocks and comparing numbers. Below are some photos of students playing a fun and new math game:
In Writing, we have been looking at how stories are structured and are writing some together as a class as we piece together how stories are written.
On Friday we had our first.... PAYDAY! This means that every student that has a job got paid for their hard work! Pretty soon not only will they get paid for doing hard work on their jobs, but for their homework, too! Here they are showing off their very deserving earnings! I love how proud and excited they look!
Leave us some love in the comments to let us know what you enjoyed seeing about this week! Stay tuned!
