MATH
This week the students will continue practicing with money and solving word problems using money. We will also finish up our Unit on Money this week. READING Students will be looking at how specific images and words help contribute to a story, poem, or song WRITING We will be finishing up our research books and begin writing stories. Once we begin stories, the students will first learn to create a comic strip to better help them with their own individual stories. Students will be adding and subtracting within 100 using money. We will also be solving problems involving dollar bills, quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies using $ and ¢ symbols. READING Students will be putting together all the strategies that they have learned to form their thoughts, opinions, and conclusions to better help them think as they read different texts. WRITING We will be finishing up our research books and begin writing stories. SCIENCE We will begin observing a new unit in 2M discussing different types of weather. We will begin our unit on Money! We will be looking at dollar bills, quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies. Students will learn to not only add and subtract with money, but they will be solving word problems and comparing different amounts of money. READING This is our final week with evaluating an author's arguments. The students have been working hard in their groups trying to decipher what facts are important to support the author's reason for each writing piece. WRITING Students will be putting together their facts about their topic and forming the pages to the informational writing book. They will also begin revising and editing. SCIENCE This week will be the last week the students will be in Mrs. Cusack's room for Science as they will be moving to 2M for the last few weeks discussing weather. READING We are continuing with Evaluating an Author's Arguments. We will be looking at different texts to find the evidence that supports the authors reason for writing. WRITING Students are continuing with their informational writing pieces. They will be finishing up a practice book about themselves to better help them understand the importance of having factual information about the topic they have picked. The students had a mini lesson on measurement this last week since we had to do makeups for the Cogat. We will begin diving right into measurements with different objects such as: yard stick, ruler, tape measure, or even different objects used as units. READING Students will be looking for clues in texts to decide whether a story is written in 1st person or 3rd person. 1st person is being told by one of the characters, and 3rd person is told by a narrator/someone reading the story. WRITING Students will finish publishing their opinion writing piece. We will begin our next writing piece which will be a research piece. SCIENCE Students have started a new Science investigation!
