Math
In Math, we have started chapter 4, which is Bar Models. Bar Models help students to visually work out word problems. I sent home an informational sheet on bar models this week to give parents better understanding about what they are! Also, if you check the "resources" tab, I've provided more information on bar models as well. We've started using them to add and subtract. Next week we will work on comparing using Bar Models and deepening our understanding of adding and subtracting with them.
Reading
We have started theme 5, which is studying about where people live. Our vocabulary words have focused on our theme as you can see. We've been practicing how to make inferences in reading and how to determine importance in reading.
Science
We are finishing up the Solar System unit and have had a blast this week! We started off the week by going to our outdoor classroom, The Fox Den, and creating the Solar System ourselves by impersonating it by using giant blow up planets, sun, and moon. We focused on the difference between ORBITING and ROTATING. It was so fun being able to learn outside and get some fresh air while making our learning hands-on! Later on in the week we split up into groups and created larger scaled planets to hang in our classroom. They look GREAT! Next week we will begin talking about sound in science and how it is created.
