We've been learning all things subtraction with regrouping. Students have learned how to regroup in the ones, tens, & hundreds place. Next week we'll be learning how to subtract across zeros (ex: 400-236) using a few strategies. We'll also be looking into real world story problems, too. As of now, we're planning to have our test over subtraction with regrouping on either Thursday or Friday, so be on the lookout for a review packet coming home to help them prepare!
READING
Our mentor text next week is Turk and Runt by Lisa Wheeler. Through this mentor text, we'll be studying making inferences and locating facts.
To promote sharing our reading at home, I've created a grid on Flipgrid HERE for our class!
Students can create a short video showing off a book they're reading. It could be a book from my library or the RES library, or even a book from home or your local library. ANYTHING they're reading!
Students should be sure to share the following in their videos:
1. Title, Author/Illustrator
2. Summary
3. Rating (out of 5 stars)
Then, students are free to click an emoji reaction to each other's videos. Please show this Emoji Reaction Guide to your child FIRST. :) I can't wait to hear about all the amazing reading your child will do this year! Let's fill up that Flipgrid!
WRITING
We've been learning how to form an opinion based on the text Hey, Little Ant! Students are choosing a side: Team Kid or Team Ant and learning how to provide reasons to defend an opinion.
We also had Mrs. Pitzer (District Instructional Technology Coach) visit our classroom and teach students how to use HyperDocs on Chromebooks! (photos below)
