We took our Chapter 2: Addition Up to 1,000 test this week! Next, we will be getting right into Chapter 3: Subtraction. Please continue to practice math facts at home with your child using Xtramath. If you would like for your child to do some practice at home please let me know and I can send home instructions on how to get it started. If you want more information about the problem, click HERE for a link to a video explaining what Xtramath is!
READING
We are focusing in on the comprehension skill of Making Connections as we read. The Mentor Text that we will be reading throughout the week is called "I Need My Monster" written by Amanda Noll. If you click on the title, you can see a video of Rita Moreno reading the book. We do take comprehension quizzes on our mentor texts each week, and our vocabulary words come directly from them, so feel free to watch the video at home with your child! Challenge them to find the vocabulary words in the text, and ask them to summarize the book to you, or add a summary to our Flipgrid below!
To promote sharing our reading at home, I've created a grid on Flipgrid HERE for our class! Shoutout to Erynn + JD who have already added to it!
Students can create a short video showing off a book they're reading. It could be a book from my library or the RES library, or even a book from home or your local library. ANYTHING they're reading!
Students should be sure to share the following in their videos:
1. Title, Author/Illustrator
2. Summary
3. Rating (out of 5 stars)
Then, students are free to click an emoji reaction to each other's videos. Please show this Emoji Reaction Guide to your child FIRST. :) I can't wait to hear about all the amazing reading your child will do this year! Let's fill up that Flipgrid!
WRITING
We will be finishing up our Personal Narratives. They will be ready for parents to read in time for Student Led Conferences!

We are still plowing away learning about Solids & Liquids, and have started discussing how to describe properties of solids based on look, feel, texture, and material. We're now learning how to group solids according to their properties.
