We have been learning about how to use mental math to solve problems. We're learning strategies to help us add and subtract in our heads. This week was focused more on addition, and next week will focus more on subtraction!
Reading
We finished up Theme 9 and are starting Theme 10 next week which is focused on helping others, volunteering, and acts of kindness. Lots of opportunity for practicing at home! ;) The reading skill we are zoning in on is finding visuals in what we read.
Writing
We are perfecting our persuasive writing pieces this week! Mr. Jefferson came in and read A Fine, Fine School to us. It's about a principal who thinks his school, students, and teachers are so great that they should go to school all year round! 2K had to try to persuade him otherwise. :)
Science
We are finishing up magnets next week!
NEXT WEEK
Vocabulary: contribute, police, volunteer
Sight Words: ready, money, white, maybe, these, why
Spelling Words: -oi and -oy word pattern
Important:
- The 100th day of school is Monday, Jan. 30th! Students can dress up like they are 100 years old! (dresses/skirts, hair buns, drawn on mustaches, glasses, suspenders, etc.)
- Wednesday, Feb. 1 is Global School Play Day, a national event across schools. Students can bring in toys and games to school that day, as long as there are NO electronics or weapon-related toys. This day is about encouraging imagination and unstructured play! Wednesday is also a half day.
- Thursday, Feb. 2 is our field trip to the Hult Center. We will be leave RES at 8:30 and returning by 10:30. No chaperones are needed for this "trip" since we're just attending one presentation and then returning to RES. :)
