Math:
We completed chapter 4 on Bar Models and had our test! This was a tough chapter to get through, considering students have to really dig into word problems to figure out what operation they should be doing. 2K really persevered!
This week we are launching into the concept of multiplication!
Reading:
In Reading we've been practicing using Fix-Up strategies, which are strategies to use when you get stuck on a word OR get lost/confused when reading. Try using these strategies when you read at home. Strategies include: reread, read on, sound it out, chunk it, use picture clues, use context clues, use text features, and use your background knowledge!
Writing:
We've been practicing our letter writing skills. 2K has written to Micky Mouse in Disney World, a classroom in Pekin, IL, and their 4th grade buddies! This week they are writing to another student in 2nd grade.
Science/Social Studies:
This week we studied all about what sound is and how it is created using vibrations. We analyzed the difference between pitch and loudness. Next week we will be studying Native Americans and Pilgrims!
NEXT WEEK:
Vocabulary: journey, boundary, terrain
Sight Words: someone, use, small, almost, own, four, river
Spelling Pattern: -oom, -ew word families
