We had a successful field trip yesterday to the Peoria Riverfront Planetarium where we learned all about weather and space during the show, and then spent the afternoon at Bradley Park. If any parent chaperones took any photos, I'd love it if you sent them to me so I can put them on the blog!
MATH
We are continuing and finishing our chapter on 3D and 2D shapes next week.
READING
Next week we are doing an author study on Kevin Henkes, and comparing and contrasting some of his most popular children's books! We will also practice summarizing and locating key moments in the text.
WRITING
We are continuing to create Fiction stories based around pirates! Arrrg! Students are learning all about story setting, character development, problem & solution, and story events! We are learning how to have a strong beginning, middle, and end, and soon will be learning about including dialogue and imagery in our stories! This week (pics below) student teamed up to come up with descriptive story sentences using the five senses to make their readers feel like they were truly in the story. Stay tuned!
SCIENCE
We have been learning about all things CHICKS! This week we cracked open (grocery store - unfertilized) eggs and students practiced finding all the parts of an egg. It's amazing how much you're able to see you never knew was there! Have your child teach this to you if they haven't already!
Over the weekend I'll be coming in to take out the egg turner from our incubator to prepare the eggs for the hatch. We're hoping to have a successful hatch with at least half of them hatching! Fingers crossed! We'll hopefully have some fluffy and adorable baby chicks as our temporary class pets next week!
