We have completed our unit on pictographs, and will be starting to study shapes and patterns next week.
READING
This week we learned about Earth Day through the book Miss Rumphius and talked how we can make the world more beautiful in practical ways through reducing, reusing, and recycling! We also practiced the comprehension skill of summarizing and will continue this skill into next week!
WRITING
We have all finished our research animal projects!! I'm so proud of all the hard work these kids put into them. We learned how to brainstorm topic ideas, ask powerful research questions, search for information using valid sources online, organize our research, and now sharing what we've learned with our Writing Celebration! We also have been using this week to write back to our pen pals in Pekin. Next week we will begin writing fiction stories.
SCIENCE
We have been talking through Earth Day, and what a fitting week to introduce our new, thirty temporary class pets; CHICKS! We have thirty eggs we are hoping to hatch in our classroom. Of course, we've already discussed that often not all thirty hatch, but we will do our best to give the eggs the care they need in hopes for a successful hatch in 21 days. We'll be studying the life cycle, learning about vocabulary terms concerning the egg, hatchling, and chick, and learning how to care for them.
