MATH
We've been digging into multiplication and mastering how to skip count by 2s, 5s, and 10s. The latest class favorite is our math warm up everyday, which includes jumping jacks, lunges, squats, and other excercises to practice skip counting. For example, I say, "Jumping Jacks! Skip count by 5s to 50! Go!" ...And then we all do jumping jacks by 5s to 50! :) Try it at home to practice! Next week in math, we are planning on having two workshop review days and taking our test on Friday.
READING
We have been practicing how to monitor our understanding of a text by rereading, asking ourselves questions, and thinking about the meaning of the words. We've also been focusing a lot on verbs, taking a look at action verbs versus linking verbs. Next week, we are going to be learning how to make connections as we read.
WRITING
We are focusing on persuasive writing this week, reading books to introduce the topic such as I Wanna Room, I Wanna Iguana, The Great Kapok Tree, and The Lorax. The kids will start writing their own full persuasive pieces to Mr. Jefferson next week, as he just came in today and told the class that... he's thinking about having school on the WEEKENDS too! Uh oh, we have some mixed opinions in second grade, so we're going to do our best to convince him of our opinions. ;)
SCIENCE
We have still been learning about magnetism and next week we will talk a bit about dental health and it's importance for our bodies!
SOCIAL STUDIES
We have been observing Martin Luther King Jr. Day throughout this week for Social Studies. We have focused on what an incredible impact he had on our society and how he fought for justice, peace, and equality in a peaceful way. He was dreamer and we talked about how we have dreams too, so each student wrote their own dream. Check them out below! **No school on Monday in observance of MLK Jr. Day**
