Math:
We've been challenging ourselves with two-step word problems using bar models to help us. As of now, our chapter 4 test on bar models is planned for Thursday, Nov. 19. A great way for students to practice at home (which also counts as math minutes) is to play the following game/activity called Thinking Blocks. I've also put the link on the "Resources" tab of this blog. Click here: Thinking Blocks
Next week in math we will be practicing and reviewing with our math workshop to prepare for the test!
Reading:
In Reading we've been practicing using Fix-Up strategies, which are strategies to use when you get stuck on a word OR get lost/confused when reading. Each student got a new bookmark to use with a list of helpful strategies! Try using these strategies when you read at home. Strategies include: reread, read on, sound it out, chunk it, use picture clues, use context clues, use text features, and use your background knowledge!
Writing:
We've been practicing our letter writing skills. The kids have been writing letters to one another, and they wrote to our veterans as well! We will continue practicing the parts of a letter next week.
Science/Social Studies:
This week we worked on understanding magnets and got to do a fun experiment. Next week we will be switching gears and learning all about Native Americans!
