This week we learned about subtraction strategies in our mental math chapter and started learning about rounding and estimation. This is a TOUGH skill, so be on the lookout for some (optional) extra practice coming home next week to help them prepare for our test over Mental Math/Addition + Subtraction which will be next Friday.
READING
Our mentor text next week will be Henry's Freedom Box by Ellen Levine. We'll be learning about the "mood" of a text and how the author conveys it through their writing.
WRITING
The students are publishing their biographies this week! They've been working so hard learning how to research and put their research into writing!
SCIENCE
Next week we will be wrapping up with our Pebbles, Silt, and Sand unit. This week we had Mrs. Chihoski come and give a fantastic presentation on geology exploration, allowing students to create their own fossils, see what a geologist uses in the field, and explore different rocks, minerals, and fossils.
