We've started chapter 4 on Bar Models. Bar Models are a visual way to represent addition and subtraction problems. Here is an example of solving a few problems using this strategy. The video is 16 minutes long, but only the first 9 minutes are applicable to what we're doing in 2nd grade. Find the video HERE!
Next week we'll begin using bar models to help us solve comparison word problems and 2-step word problems.
READING
Our mentor text next week is Those Shoes by Maribeth Boelts. See below for skill focuses. Please remind your child to return their book in a bag each week on time. They are able to return it on either Thursday OR Friday each week, take an AR test, and take home a new book for the following week. It is their responsibility to remember each week, but if you could try and help them it would be very appreciated.
